Dawna's Quilting History
Hi, my name is Dawna Sanders. Welcome to my website! Since I was in first grade I’ve
been sewing, and over the years my love for the textile arts has only grown. One of my
first jobs in high school was at Cloth World. My friends were awed by the clothes and
even prom dresses I would make for myself. As a teenager, God put many women in my life
that mentored me and encouraged my passion for sewing, including my grandmother.
Years later, along came marriage and the baby carriage! As a young mother, my desire was
to stay home with my children, so I began taking in sewing jobs to help make ends meet.
I sewed everything from model garments for Cloth World to dresses for entire wedding
parties, and even a leather vest. I also began teaching some of the women in my church
how to sew.
In 2000, I was introduced to the wonderful world of quilting by my dear friend Amy.
Quilting has become my passion and I’m excited to pass that on to others (you!).
Soon after I learned to piece quilts, I found it challenging to quilt them. My mom
purchased a longarm quilting machine, and I was so excited because now I could get all
these quilt tops I had pieced FINISHED and on the beds of all my friends and family.
In 2008, Amy and I decided to buy our own longarm machine and start a machine quilting
business which we named
Rendezvous Quilts. In the last four years we’ve quilted over
1,000 quilts!
In the last year, my passion has grown to include teaching again because I love sharing
my skills with others. For the last three years, I’ve been teaching some of the teen
girls from church how to sew and I love to see their sense of pride when they create
something of their very own.
Will you join me in my new journey? You may even learn something new. You can choose
from quiltling classes for all levels. Whether you’ve never touched a sewing machine or
you’ve been sewing for years, there is something here for you!
