Denver Quilting Classes

I am excited about the beginning of my new business, Dawna's Design Threads! Here are descriptions of the classes I am currently offering and what you can expect to learn from the them. After reading the descriptions of the classes, please see my Quilting class calendar for a listing of the dates the classes are being presented.

If you would like to register for a class, please use my contact form, which will send me an email, and I will add you to the class you have chosen. You will receive a confirmation email from me, advising you that you are enrolled in the class of your choice, and providing you with a class supply list. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to give me a call.

Quilting Class Descriptions

  • Basic Sewing - 3 hours - $35.00

    • Have you always wanted to learn to sew but were too intimidated by the "machine"? Take this class to learn the in & outs of using a sewing machine, what all the stitches are and what they are used for. In this 3 hour class you will learn to master the machine and become comfortable with you new skills. We'll even make a fun tote bag!

      Sewing machines are available for you to use here, but if you have your own feel free to bring it. Please also bring the accessories and users manual.

    • Supply List: Scissors, straight pins, seam ripper, 2 half yard cuts of coordinating fabrics, matching thread, and 1/4 yard fabric for straps on tote bag. (Back to top)

  • Simple Garmet Construction - 3 hours - $35.00

    • After you have taken the Basic Sewing class, or if you are comfortable with your machine, this is the next class for you. We will focus on reading and following patterns. We'll make a simple garmet like pajama pants, a skirt or simple blouse.

      Sewing machines are available for you to use here, but if you have your own feel free to bring it. Please also bring the accessories and users manual.

    • You will recieve an email of which pattern to purchase and supplies after you sign up for the class depending on the project. (Back to top)

  • Beginning Quilting - 3 hours - Cost $35.00

    • Come learn the basics of quilting: Rotary cutting, 1/4 inch seams, piecing, straight line machine quilting, and binding. We will be making a place mat in this class. You will learn all the technical skills you need to make any size quilt and have a finished project to take home. Must have a basic knowledge of sewing and be comfortably using a sewing machine for this class.

      Sewing machines are available for you to use here, but if you have your own feel free to bring it. Please also bring the accessories and users manual.

    • Supply List: Scissors, Rotary cutter, straight pins, neutral thread (grey, beige, or white), & a seam ripper. You can bring scraps of your favorite fabric if have them (not required). (Back to top)

  • The "Bag Lady" Class - 4 hours - Cost $45.00(includes pattern)

    • In this class we'll make a new fun quilted tote bag or purse. Each month will be a new bag and you'll get to keep you own pattern. Must have basic sewing/quilting skills.

      Sewing machines are available for you to use here, but if you have your own feel free to bring it. Please also bring the accessories and users manual.

    • Supply List: Scissors, Rotary cutter, straight pins, matching thread, & a seam ripper. List for fabric and supplies will be e-mailed to you depending on project. (Back to top)

  • Flawless Bindings - 2.5 hours - Cost $30.00

    • Learn how to apply a binding the proper and flawless way! We will learn both hand binding and a machine technique. For practice, bring 2 pieces of fabric and batting at least 20 X 20 inches, thread, and 3 strips of fabric cut at 2 1/4 inch X WOF (width of fabric- usually around 42 inches).

  • Machine Quilting Class - 3 hours - Cost $35.00

    • Learn how to freemotion machine quilt on your own machine. We'll start out with stipple, loops, swirls and flowers. Then, we'll try our hand at stencils. You must be comfortable with your machine and have some quilting experience for this class. Bring your own machine and the users manual. Must know how to get it into "darning mode". You may need to purchase a darning foot.
    • Supply List: Scissors & a seam ripper.
      Bring a "practice" quilt: 2 pieces of plain (solid color) fabric with batting about 30 X 30 inches. Use a FEW safety pins to hold them together. Bring a sketch pad and about 4-5 different colors of thread that contrast with fabric. (Back to top)

  • Simple Quilts - 4 hours - Cost $35.00

    • If you are a new quilter or you have mastered basic sewing skill and beginning quilting techniques, join us for a class on making a full size quilt. We'll keep it simple and do a different Quilt every month.

    • Supply List: Scissors, Rotary cutter, straight pins, neutral thread (grey, beige, or white), & a seam ripper. Fabric list and pre-cutting instructions will be emailed to you when you sign up.

  • Nickle Quilts - 6 hours - Cost $50.00

    • This is a more advanced class. If you are comfortable with your sewing/quilting skills or have been quilting for a while, come learn a new technique. This class with focus on making quilts from 5 inch squares. Based on the nickel quilt books bye Pat Speth. Each month will be a new quilt. Email or call if you have any questions.
    • A picture, supply list, and pre-cutting instructions will be emailed to you when you enroll in the class.(Back to top)

  • Private Quilting Class - By Appointment - Cost $20 - $25 per hour

    • Dawna also offers private lessons by appointment only. Cost is $20.00/hour if you come to her house, $25.00/hour if she comes to you. Lessons include, but are not limited to, garment construction, quilting (both piecing and machine quilting), and Longarm quilting.(Back to top)
